Best Ways Of Using A CV Sample
June 27th, 2009
The last thing you want a potential employer to think when they read your CV is it does not appear to be original. Unfortunately this is exactly what happens to many job seekers who rely on a CV sample to create their own CV.
These types of samples are certainly a good place to start but they will not help you get a job unless you make an effort to improve upon these samples. Do not just start out with a basic CV sample and only change the basic information that has to be changed. This includes information such as your name, contact information, education and previous work experience. Sometimes just changing the order the resume sections appear in can make your CV stand out. The education section is one section which could be placed on the top or the bottom of the CV so try changing this location to give the CV an updated look.
You should also think about methods for demonstrating the skills you acquired in your previous jobs. You can really make your resume shine by finding a way different from the sample to demonstrate your skills.
Changing the layout of a sample CV is another way you can make your own CV appear fresh. Most potential employers can tell right away when a sample or template was used because the majority of CVs have this same appearance. Even slight changes such as modifying the margins or changing the spacing can make your CV appear fresh.
In conclusion you should realize that just because you are using a CV sample as a starting point does not mean you cannot make your CV demonstrate your personality. There are a couple of ways to do this such as incorporating a border or a background image into the CV. These unique details are not usually included in samples so most job seekers do not have them in their own CVs.
