Will Teenagers Be Able to Find Jobs This Summer?

Summer is the time teens start looking for jobs and for many of them, it is the first time. They either need the money or want the money to spend on things like video games and date money. Some of them might be saving money for a car and getting a job is a good way to do that.

This summer of 2009 might see more teens than ever looking for jobs. This is because so many adults have become unemployed that they might need their children to find jobs and help out the family situation. Children used to work on the farm in old times to help out and this year might be similar in that many families might benefit from any money the kids can bring in.

With more teenagers looking for jobs than usual and more adults unemployed than usual, this summer could get quite uncomfortable. Usually, teens are happy to take minimum wage jobs and jobs that require little to no experience. This year though, they might have to compete with adults for those jobs as more and more adults become willing to take any sort of job. If the economy doesnt make a quick turnaround, which is unlikely, we may have a situation where teenagers and adults are competing for some of the same jobs.

Another reason teens want summer jobs is to try to get some job experience under their belt. If they can get their first jobs and learn some responsibility, this will help them get better jobs in the years to come. Of course there are the teens that do this mostly because of their parents urging and then there are those that are motivated and do it on their own.

This year though, the importance of teens getting a job may be more about the money than the experience they might gain. If jobs are hard to find, they may have to take anything they can get just to bring in some added money into the household and not worry about whether they are getting a job that will look good on a resume.
