Killer Interview techniques to get your dream job
October 28th, 2008
Making a good impression is important to beat your competition for the position you want. Your preparation begins with you initial approach an understanding what interviewers want in a future employee.
1: Make a Great Impression - Always dress in your best attire for the interview. Your attire should be appropriate. No matter what the company may require for their employees, the first impression for applicants should be conservative business attire.
2: Do not sell yourself short. In the course of the interview, answer the questions briefly and accurately. The key is to be honest. Make sure that as a prospective employee, you impart to your future employer what you really are and what you can do for the company, not the other way around. Stay positive and do not give a bad impression about your previous employer.
Tip 3: When going to a job interview, it is important that you are dressed appropriately. You would actually be surprised to learn how many job applicants show up to a job interview in unattractive, unprofessional attire. Even if you are just applying for a job as a cashier at one of your local supermarkets, you are still advised to dress professionally for a job interview. Depending on the job you are applying for, a dress or a business suit may be called for; however, a simple pair of black pants and a white shirt is much better than a pair of jeans.
Tactic 4: In the course of the interview, answer the questions briefly and accurately. The key is to be honest. Make sure that as a prospective employee, you impart to your future employer what you really are and what you can do for the company, not the other way around. Stay positive and do not give a bad impression about your previous employer. If you are applying for your first job, do not let your lack of experience hinder you from gaining the advantage against more experienced applicants. What you lack in experience, make up for in confidence and eagerness to learn. You may also put yourself in the employer’s shoes. Ask yourself, if I were on the other side of this desk, what qualities should I look for in a potential employee? Would I profit if he works for me and can he contribute to the development of the company? Do not be afraid to sell yourself but do not be overconfident. Just project an air that you are sure of yourself and your capabilities.
Tactic 5: Half of the reason that companies hire outside of their workforce is to infuse fresh blood into the office. You need to be peppy and positive. If the company is not doing well, express optimism about its future. Let your interviewer know that you have faith in the company even before you begin working there. Even if the job you are interviewing for is not the most glamorous in the world, let them know that you would be delighted to do it.
