Easy Way To Install A Ceiling Fan

If you want to connect a ceiling fan then this can be done by you also. You just need to be little attentive while making the connections. Also for connecting different wires, tightly connect the wires and don’t use loose nuts as they make the connection loose. Never leave the connections uncovered and wrap an electric tape around it.

For connecting a ceiling fan 4 different wires are provided. These wires are normally found to have black, white, green and one more color (red/blue or black/white striped). Each color has different meaning.

Out of four wires, black wire represents the hot lead of the fan whereas red/blue/striped wire represents hot lead of the light kit (optional). White wire represents the neutral lead of ceiling fan as well as light kit and green wire represents the ground wire for whole assembly.

Now start connecting the wires of fan to the home wiring. Start with the neutral wire connection. The neutral wire of fan that is white in color is required to be connected with the neutral wire of house (white color). Also check if the white wire of your ceiling fan has a colored tape over it then that may signify that this wire should not be used as neural wire.

Green wire of ceiling fan is required to be connected to ground wire of the house wiring. The ground wire of home wiring connection could be bare or green in color. In case ground wire is missing in your home then grounded connection can be provided from metal conduit or electrical box and you need to attach the ground wire of your ceiling fan to them.

After connecting ground wire, you need to connect the hot terminal of your ceiling fan. If your ceiling fan has no light fixture then attach this hot terminal to hot wire of the electric supply that is generally found in black color.

If your ceiling fan has a light kit then you need to connect both wires of the fan to the hot power supply lead, unless your house is wired to switch the ceiling fan and light independently.

Your work of connecting a ceiling fan is over now. So by now you must have got an understanding of doing it. But if you find things different while performing the task then consult a professional to help you out.
